DO YOU REALLY KNOW COVID-19?

How much do you really know about COVID-19? Is it just what you read in the headlines? Is it what you hear in the news?

Ask yourself these questions:

All the research that is provided is gathered via the World Health Organization (WHO) website, other large health organizations, writings by medical professionals, and some comparison to larger news organizations. I will explain how I gathered this information so you can conduct the same steps that I did.

First, I am not a doctor and I am not in medical school. I am someone that conducted research and felt that it was necessary to publish what I found. It is up to you the reader to digest this, compare it to what you have read or heard, and decide for yourself “WHAT IS TRUE?”.

Research Methods:

Only used Google as my internet search engine
Used 2 methods when using Google:
1. I used Google’s Advanced Search: https://www.google.com/advanced_search
2. Secondly I used Google’s standard search, and created individual searches: for example in the Google Search Bar I typed: “pneumonia site:who.int”
3. After I had the results listed I used Google’s Tools to set a custom date range.

Now that I have explained how I conducted my research I would like to explain the research I discovered. Let’s start with the Listings of WHO’s response to COVID-19. In addition lets focus on the dates between December 31, 2019 and January 14, 2020.

Timeline

I found that on June 29, 2020 the World Health Organization (WHO) published Listings of WHO’s response to COVID-19. This is a timeline of events on the WHO’s response. As of this writing it was last updated on December 28, 2020. “Last updated 28 December 2020 to restore some dates that had been inadvertently deleted from this text version of the timeline. They remained in the interactive timeline throughout.” Did you notice the words “inadvertently deleted”? Just to keep things clear per Oxford Languages inadvertently means: without intention; accidentally.

To find out what was inadvertently deleted from the text version of the timeline, I need to compare some documentation. I used the publication on December 28, 2020 as my constant since it is the one with the reference that the WHO had to restore some dates. Using the Internet Archive Wayback Machine at https://web.archive.org I searched for the link of the published article. The farthest back that the WayBack Machine referenced was October 15, 2020 for this link. I didn’t jump to that date, I started closer to the constant date. I noticed the change was made between November 29 and December 1, 2020. Below is the dates that were missing from the document. How do you inadvertently delete this data from a publication? I will try and see if there is any relevance to the dates when removed and the data removed.

5 January 2020

WHO shared detailed information about a cluster of cases of pneumonia of unknown cause through the IHR (2005) Event Information System, which is accessible to all Member States. The event notice provided information on the cases and advised Member States to take precautions to reduce the risk of acute respiratory infections.

WHO issued its first Disease Outbreak News report. This is a public, web-based platform for the publication of technical information addressed to the scientific and public health communities, as well as global media. The report contained information about the number of cases and their clinical status; details about the Wuhan national authority’s response measures; and WHO’s risk assessment and advice on public health measures. It advised that “WHO’s recommendations on public health measures and surveillance of influenza and severe acute respiratory infections still apply”.

9 January 2020

WHO reported that Chinese authorities have determined that the outbreak is caused by a novel coronavirus.

WHO convened the first of many teleconferences with global expert networks, beginning with the Clinical Network.

With that brief example of a timeline we will address the first 2 questions at the beginning of this writing.

  1. Do you know when COVID-19 first started and where?
  2. What were the first signs of a bigger medical issue?

With the above information lets try to answer questions of: Do you know when COVID-19 first started and where? What were the first signs of a bigger medical issue? When did science determine the genome sequence of this new coronavirus?

SAR-CoV-2 first started in December 2019. With the WHO being informed on December 31, 2019 and the WHO says as of April 30, 2020 that the average days before symptoms appears is around 5-6 days but up to 14 days, I would have to say that the 44 cases of pneumonia in Wuhan China started in the second to third week of December. This gives it time for the symptoms to mature into pneumonia. ***UPDATE – 07/04/2021 – https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2012-7 In an article published on February 3, 2020, it is stated that the epidemic started on December 12, 2019. This date matches exactly to the calculation as it falls in the 2nd week of December of 2019. In this article it is said that COVID-19 matches 79.6% to SARS-CoV, but that it matches 96% to another bat coronavirus. Then why name COVID-19 SARS-CoV-2 and why speculate that it came from pangolins? Early on in this article the two authors (one of them is Shi Zhengli – top virologist at Wuhan Institute of Virology) acknowledge that COVID-19 started from a local seafood market. Why is this theory of the local seafood market being pushed so early into the discovery of this virus? Also why were 7 of the patients (6 of them were sellers or deliverymen from the seafood market) sent from the Wuhan Jin Yin-Tan Hospital to the laboratory at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) for diagnosis of the causative pathogen? In their diagnosis of these patients they (Shi Zhengli and others) found 5 additional coronaviruses WIV02, WIV04, WIV05, WIV06, WIV07 and sent the genome sequences to GISAID. They were 99.9 identical to each other. That is why they have different names. In figure 1 of the article they have these 5 Beta coronaviruses listed. Better where is WIV03? Why is it skipped? In figure 2 you will notice that WIV03 is now listed. ***

I would have to guess that the first signs of a bigger medical issue were on January 5,2020 when the WHO said that China was already conducting medical observation of one hundred and twenty-one close contacts and that they had already start disinfection of places.

The genome sequence of nCoV-2019 was completed and shared with GISAID on January 10, 2020, 11 days after the WHO was informed. In 7 days after the WHO was informed a novel coronavirus was identified, and 4 days later the genome sequence was completed and shared with GISAID. Is the speed to identification and genome sequencing normal, is it fast, or is it slow. Per the WHO’s statement on January 9, 2020 “Preliminary identification of a novel virus in a short period of time is a notable achievement and demonstrates China’s increased capacity to manage new outbreaks” it seems as thought it was fast and potentially extremely fast. But to be sure we need to compare it to another outbreak. The SARS outbreak of 2003 and the MERS outbreak of 2012 will be used as comparisons.

The first introduction to SARS (Sudden Acute Respiratory Syndrome) in 2003 was on February 23, 2003 when WHO officer Carlo Urbani, MD was in Hanoi, Veitnam examining an American businessman with an unknown form of pneumonia. Urbani called it SARS on March 10, 2003, but on March 24, 2003 the CDC presented its first evidence of a new strain of virus called the coronavirus. This would be 29 days since the WHO became aware of a pneumonia related issue.

MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) was first detected in March 2012. On September 20, 2012 a Saudi Arabian physician isolated a novel coronavirus from a patient with pneumonia. On May 15, 2013 the WHO Regional Office in Europe released a statement identifying the novel coronavirus MERS. From first detection to isolation it took 6 months to identify the novel coronavirus. This is significantly longer than for SARS and 9 years later. There had to be medical advances to help speed up the process or at least keep the identification to 1 month as it was for SARS.

With the information about let’s try and answer one of the questions at the beginning. How does the timing of sciences discovery compare to the speed at which they did when they discovered SARS and MERS? With the 2 use cases (SARS and MERS) we can see that the identification of SARS-CoV-2 was significantly faster, 76% faster if my math is right.

Now that we have answered those 3 questions, I want to discuss January 30, 2020. This would be 1 month since the WHO was informed of the 44 pneumonia cases in Wuhan. The following data was reported on January 30, 2020. 20200130-sitrep-10-ncov.pdf (who.int)

Why do I bring up those numbers? Let’s add those numbers to the below information.

How does a city 1/3 the population of Wuhan has 1.568 million SARS-CoV-2 cases in all of China has less than 100K? If this virus is capable of spreading as fast as it does, and the country of India has over 30 million cases when their population is nearly the same as China, how does China have less than 100K cases? Using Google Earth I calculated the distance between the Wuhan Institute for Virology and the Wuhan South China Seafood Wholesale Market or Huanan Seafood Market, a straight line puts it at 12 kilometers or 7.46 miles

If virus recombination is what the scientific community is point towards in this article on nature.com (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-78703-6), how did the recombination happen at the RBD with such a high similarity to the pangolin MP789 coronavirus? Wouldn’t recombination be similar to how our parents create us where we have an almost 50% split in our DNA between the parents? Or is it different with viruses?

The more you understand the better you are informed and will be able to see who is telling the truth and who is trying to hide something or who is misrepresenting something to paint a picture the story teller (reporter, journalist, etc) is wanting you to see and not what you should see. Find the TRUTH for yourself. Not all news is true to its word, that is where fake news got its name.
